Debugging

  • mtx_check mtx_check checks whether a Pd matrix message is valid and can fix an underspecified matrix by padding missing elements with zeros.
  • upp.dspintv upp.dspintv measures the time interval between messages in DSP ticks, making it useful for checking message timing relative to DSP processing.
  • print_long pddp/print_long displays arbitrary messages in the patch rather than in the Pd window, using a longer, fully enclosed box.
  • cputime cputime measures elapsed CPU time as reported by the operating system and outputs the result in milliseconds, making it useful for measuring CPU usage.
  • p p is a shortcut for printing values.
  • mc._dsp mc._dsp detects and reports DSP activity.
  • testmess testmess generates test messages for testing cyclone objects, outputting lists of floats whose size can be set by a creation argument, a float, or a set n message.
  • normal normal posts incoming Pd messages at the normal logging level, for console-style diagnostic output.
  • ui.display ui.display is a GUI object that accepts and displays any Pd message, making it useful for visually monitoring messages in a patch.
  • !msg !msg accepts any message and prints a “wrong message” notification to the console, making it useful for debugging when connected to the last outlet of an object such as route.
  • system.memused system.memused reports the current and peak (maximum so far) physical memory usage of the process, measured in bytes.
  • ponta ponta is a probe for verifying signal points in Pd patches.
  • findbrokenobjects findbrokenobjects searches for broken objects, including unknown object classes and objects that failed to create for other reasons.
  • debug debug is a simple control object for managing the flow of print messages, useful for testing.
  • martin-test martin-test is a test patch for the discontinuous martin (Latoocarfian) attractor, exercising parameter changes, searches, state display, resets, and Lyapunov analysis.
  • unitTesting unitTesting runs unit tests on a Pd object by comparing its actual output with the expected output.
  • fd_cputime fd_cputime is a small GUI that queries CPU time, as in Pd’s load-meter.pd, for monitoring processor load.
  • patch.deps patch.deps reports a patch’s dependencies, including used objects and abstractions.
  • testar~ testar~ is a simple array-writing tool for viewing and debugging signals.
  • printHere printHere acts like an on-patch console for displaying incoming messages, resizing as needed and showing up to eight lines by default.
  • dptosym dptosym converts a double-precision value into a symbol, intended only for help and debugging.
  • canvaserror canvaserror prints a real error message to the Pd console.
  • watch-input watch-input helps check for the presence of an audio signal.
  • dbgr~ dbgr~ displays a stream of numbers from a signal, serving a purpose similar to snaps~ from jmmmp.
  • dbg dbg conditionally prints its input only when a specified value is enabled, making it useful for controlled debugging output.
  • mtx_print mtx_print prints an incoming matrix to the console in a formatted way.
  • mtx_show mtx_show displays an input matrix, with its display size adjusting automatically to the matrix dimensions and required digits.
  • monitor~ monitor~ samples an input signal and outputs its value as a float every 20 milliseconds.
  • print~ print~ prints the raw values of an input signal for inspection.
  • rprint rprint intercepts messages sent to a named destination and prints them to the Pd console, making it useful for monitoring sends.
  • unit-test-frame unit-test-frame is an abstraction intended to help create unit tests in Pure Data.
  • printbytes printbytes prints byte strings to the Pd console, allowing byte lists to be inspected as text.
  • stdout stdout sends messages to Pd's standard output, providing a way to write Pd messages there.
  • fatal fatal posts incoming messages at the fatal logging level, for use in reporting fatal conditions.
  • printwchars printwchars prints wide-character strings to the Pd console, accepting anything at its inlet.
  • ossia.logger ossia.logger sends log messages at several severity levels, including trace, debug, info, warning, error, and critical.
  • unit-test-frame~ unit-test-frame~ is an abstraction intended to help with unit testing in Pure Data.
  • purepd_error purepd_error appears intended to report an error associated with a supplied object name, such as my_object_name.
  • testro testro is a quick metronome intended for debugging.
  • cpugraph cpugraph is a graph-on-parent (GOP) widget for monitoring CPU usage in Pure Data.
  • logpost logpost posts incoming messages at different log levels.
  • logger logger is an advanced data logger that logs incoming messages.
  • popcorn-test popcorn-test is a help/test patch for the popcorn chaotic attractor, driving it periodically and printing its X/Y output.
  • pib~ pib~ reports the time, in milliseconds, into the current signal block.
  • syslog syslog writes messages from Pd to the system log.
  • dptohex dptohex converts a double-precision value to a hexadecimal symbol for debugging.
  • error error provides a mechanism for abstractions such as easyflow/sublist to report errors to the Pd console.
  • pinb~ pinb~ outputs the current sample number within the DSP block.
  • print pddp/print displays arbitrary messages within the patch rather than in the Pd window, flashing each message and then resetting to blank.
  • ixprint ixprint prints incoming messages with the prefix "print:".
