Terms of Service

Effective July 17, 2026

These terms govern your use of the hosted PocketReader web application and its optional synchronization features. By using PocketReader, you agree to these terms.

Open-source software

PocketReader's source code is available under the GNU General Public License version 3. Your rights to copy, modify, and distribute the software are governed by that license. These service terms do not reduce rights granted by the open-source license.

Acceptable use

You agree to use PocketReader lawfully and not to:

Your documents and accounts

You retain ownership of your documents, annotations, and other content. You are responsible for having the right to open, process, translate, synchronize, and store that content. You are also responsible for protecting access to your browser, Google Account, and any self-hosted server account.

Optional third-party and self-hosted services

Google Drive and translation features depend on services operated by third parties and may also be subject to their terms. Self-hosted PocketReader servers are operated independently by their respective operators. The PocketReader project does not control those deployments or guarantee their availability.

Availability and changes

PocketReader may change, suspend, or discontinue hosted features at any time. Features can contain bugs, and synchronization can be interrupted by network failures, browser restrictions, authorization expiry, quotas, or third-party service changes. Keep independent backups of important documents and annotations.

No warranty

To the extent permitted by law, PocketReader and its hosted service are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind. No guarantee is made that text extraction, text-to-speech, translation, annotations, or synchronization will be accurate, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, PocketReader's contributors and maintainers are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for loss of data, access, profits, or goodwill resulting from use of or inability to use PocketReader.

Privacy

The Privacy Policy explains how PocketReader processes local data and data used by optional synchronization and translation features.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated as PocketReader evolves. The effective date above identifies the current version. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
